The 2024 season is in full swing with the ongoing National Species Tourney (all US states, saltwater and freshwater) and many other public tournaments that qualify for National Ranking Points.

Up next: The 2024 Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Tournament.  Bay Bash Foundation is hosting Liquid Assets II (Capt. Billy Pipkin) out of Ingram Bay Marina. See the many other events they are sponsoring this summer. (www.BayBash.com)

The King's Ransom romance spy thriller, Book One, Queen of the Bay,  is now available on Audible and Apple Books. Actress Leigh Foster brings to life our own Special Anglers during the infamous Spanish mackerel tournament on the Chesapeake Bay. If purchase (the paperback) through Special Angler, 100% over cost is treated as a donation to Special Angler.

Special Angler returned to action in 2022, our COVID sleep finally over. Our largest contingent of Special Anglers ever for a “big boy” boat tourney hit the waters at the August 13th Bay Bash hosted by Ingram Bay Marina (see the Live Leaderboard and press releases). We were thrilled to see participation from not only the out-of-towners, but a much larger local angler participation from the Northern Neck and the Eastern Shore. A few anglers returned for the 14th Annual Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Tournament out of Kilmarnock. Although the National Catch-n-Release tourney continued, we did not participate in another public tournament to satisfy the minimum requirements for declaring a National Champion (Jeff Cogswell still reigns). We plan to do that at the first major tournament of 2024.

If you manage a public fishing tournament, please consider adding a Special Angler Division, which will earn Special Anglers in your neck of the woods even greater points and a chance to brag about a future National Champion from your state. If you qualify as a Special Olympian, you qualify as a Special Angler!
